What is a dietary supplement?
In the Food Act, a food supplement is a food whose purpose is to supplement regular food and which is a concentrated source of human nutrients and other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect. A food supplement is not a drug , it is classified as a drug-like product according to the law.
The mentioned substances can be present individually or in combination and are put on the market packaged in sales packaging in fixed doses, such as capsules, lozenges, tablets and the like and powder sachets, liquid ampoules, dropper bottles and the like, which are intended for consumption of liquid and powder in small measured quantities.
The purpose of the food supplement is to make up for the lack of active substances (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, minerals, beneficial bacteria, fatty acids) caused by lifestyle (bad habits, stress), diseases, dietary habits (e.g. vegetarianism) or food quality.
As for food supplements containing live microbes (probiotics), beneficial bacteria are also available in the form of a food supplement for those people who cannot or do not want to consume dairy products (yogurt, kefir), which are traditionally the most used as probiotic carriers.
