Lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® (DSM21379)

Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA®

Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® is isolated from a healthy Estonian child. This strain was discovered by BioCC OÜ researchers in cooperation with Tartu University researchers.

Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® was identified by API 50CHL System (bioMérieux, France) test kit as Lactobacillus plantarum (overlap with type strain: excellent , ID %-99.9, T index -0.81) and molecular identification using ITS-PCR ( Internal-Transcribed Spacer Polymerase Chain Reaction ).

Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® was deposited in the culture collection Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen GmbH under the number DSM 21379 on 16.04.2008 in accordance with the Budapest Agreement on the International Recognition of Deposits for Patent Examination.

Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® is BioCC OÜ property and registered trademark .

Mechanisms of action of Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA ® t :

  • INDUCIA® protects cardiovascular health by lowering LDL cholesterol levels in the blood, bile salt hydrolases (enzyme BSH bile salt hydrolase ) due to its activity and by binding dietary cholesterol in the intestine.
  • INDUCIA® lowers the level of oxidized low-density lipoproteins (ox-LDL) in the blood and the oxidative stress index that negatively affects the human body.
  • INDUCIA® supports the antioxidant network of the human body due to its antioxidant properties and the presence of a complete intracellular glutathione system.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are by-products of normal cell life and come from a variety of sources. Oxidative stress caused by excessive production of ROS-I and imbalance of antioxidant defense mechanisms is an important part in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. Reduced glutathione and antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase are an important component of the antioxidant defense system of cells.

Consumption of Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® in addition to the above

  • Helps maintain and balance the intestinal microbiota
  • Increases the number of beneficial lactobacilli, which ensures better absorption of nutrients
  • Increases the human body's natural defense against several different enteropathogens due to its high antimicrobial activity by producing antimicrobial compounds (organic acids, hydrogen peroxide, plantaricins).
  • It helps in food products Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® prevent the risk of food-related infections by suppressing potentially disease-causing bacteria such as listeria, salmonella, shigella .
  • INDUCIA® is capable of inhibiting the germination of Clostridium difficile spores and the reproduction of vegetative cells.

Clostridium difficile is an anaerobic spore-forming intestinal pathogen. C. difficile is a particularly common cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea in hospitals and nursing homes. Germination of spores into vegetative cells and production of toxins are necessary to induce the disease. 25% of patients infected with C. difficile develop pseudomembranous colitis . Colstridium difficile -associated diarrhea increases mortality, bed days, and significantly increases overall health care costs.

Safety and tolerability of Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA ® b io

A species of lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus plantarum centuries of use with fermented foods have proven their safety (FAO/WHO, 2002). Species L. plantarum is registered as QPS ( Qualified Presumption of Safety) by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to the list of taxonomic units with status (EFSA, 2007 and 2012).

At the same time it is Lactobacillus plantarum as a species part of the normal microflora of humans. Lactobacillus plantarum The human origin of INDUCIA® (isolated from a healthy Estonian child) assumes that this microbe is safe and suitable for oral administration.

Scientifically, Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® has been proven safe in test tubes and in laboratory animals, and safe and tolerable in clinical trials in healthy volunteers.

Susceptibility of Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® to antibacterial preparations was determined according to ISO 10932:2010 using the VetMIC Lact-1 and VetMIC Lact-2 kit (SVA National Veterinary Institute, Uppsala, Sweden). Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were not exceeded by EFSA for the species Lactobacillus plantarum set limit values (EFSA 2012).

The safety of L plantarum INDUCIA® was tested in a mouse model during 30 days of administration. No bacterial translocation (entering the bloodstream) or pathological changes were found in the morphological and histological examination of the liver, spleen and stomach.

Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA ® o hutus and tolerability

The safety and tolerability of Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® has been proven in adults (aged 20 to 60 years) without health complaints. No discomfort, abdominal pain or other negative symptoms were reported in the impact studies. Inflammatory indicators (hs-CRP, WBC count; lgG, lgM and lgE) did not increase either.

Lactobacillus plantarum Daily intake of INDUCIA® for 3 and 8 weeks at a dose of 2 to 5 x 10 9 of live microbial cells per day did not damage the body's kidney and liver function (function indicators AST, ALT albumin, serum creatinine remained within the normal range).

Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® as a probiotic

BioCC OÜ developed Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® as a probiotic in cooperation with the Faculty of Microbiology and Biochemistry of the University of Tartu according to FAO/WHO (2002) guidelines.

Survival in the gastrointestinal tract

A prerequisite for the manifestation of the properties of probiotics is good survival in the digestive tract to ensure their normal metabolic activity and the manifestation of health effects after consumption.

With research, we have proven that Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® is able to survive in the human digestive system. Strain-specific RT-PCR analysis confirmed Lactobacillus plantarum The presence of INDUCIA® in the faeces of 40% of adults after 4 weeks of consumption with a functional food (daily dose of 2 x 10 9 live microbial cell) and 52% of adults defecated after 8 weeks of consumption.

Health benefits

Dyslipidemia is one of the main causes of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. High levels of LDL cholesterol lead to the formation of atherosclerotic plaque, which can lead to myocardial infarction or stroke. Oxidized LDL cholesterol (oxLDL) is a specific indicator of oxidative stress in LDL particles. High levels of ox-LDL are associated with the risk of heart disease.

Oxidative stress is caused by the presence of excess reactive oxygen species that cause damage to DNA, protein and cholesterol molecules. Excessive oxidative stress is the cause of many diseases, including cardiovascular diseases.

The health effects of L. plantarum INDUCIA® have been tested on more than 500 people.

According to internationally registered impact studies (ISRCTN79645828 and ISRCTN26344255) has L. plantarum INDUCIA®

preventive effect against cardiovascular diseases by lowering the level of LDL cholesterol in the blood, in addition, it protects the human body from oxidative damage and increases the oxidative stress markers ox-LDL, OSI and TPX by lowering the antioxidant activity.

Technological features

Lactobacillus plantarum INDUCIA® has a flexible metabolism and therefore tolerates technological handling well, is able to reproduce in a wide temperature range (+12 o C to +45 o C) and in conditions of carbohydrate shortage.

BioCC has developed concepts L. plantarum INDUCIA ® for use in food products and as a dietary supplement.
